The Thermage procedure may be performed in a surgeon’s office-based facility or an outpatient surgery center and typically takes under two hours to complete. Because patients may experience a deep heating sensation during treatment, an anesthetic cream may first be applied. During treatment, the ThermaTip device is applied to the skin, allowing a radio frequency to heat a large volume of collagen in the deeper layers of skin and underlying tissue. This causes the collagen and skin tissue to tighten, effectively removing some wrinkles and lifting loose skin.
Some redness and swelling may occur during the first few days after treatment. However, recovery is minimal and patients can typically resume work and other normal activities right away. Patients will notice that the skin feels tighter and smoother immediately after treatment, and continued tightening will occur during the next two to six months.
Complications associated with Thermage are generally few but may include bumps, blisters and skin depressions. The results of Thermage may last two years or longer.
